GameStop Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

GameStop is an American video game, consumer electronics and gaming merchandise retailer. The company is headquartered in Grapevine, Texas, United States, a suburb of Dallas, and operated 5,509 retail stores throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe as of February 1, 2020. The company's retail stores primarily operate under the GameStop, EB Games, ThinkGeek and Micromania-Zing brandsIn addition to retail stores, GameStop also owns Game Informer, a video game magazine.

GameStop has been the subject of criticism over the years in response to several of its policies. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, the company was criticized for their stores remaining open to customers, a decision that was later reversed the following month in response to the negative feedback. A loyal gamestop customer had this to say in their las purchase, "If you pre-order, you're supposed to get it when it's released. I pre-ordered, it was supposed to be shipped on a friday, and arrive monday. On Monday, I checked the tracking number, and it says a shipping label was created on monday, and it was actually shipped on tuesday. So, the expected monday arrival got pushed to friday, and then to saturday. I'll never give another cent to gamestop. They suck." ""

Former Employee - Senior Associate says

"I worked at GameStop full-time for less than a year Cons: constantly micromanaged. overly micromanaged. weekly work reviews and end of month reviews."

Former Employee - Retail Store Manager says

"I worked at GameStop full-time for more than 5 years Cons: everything is bad here really"

Former Employee - Assistant Manager says

"I worked at GameStop full-time for more than a year Cons: Upper management is so disconnected from the reality of in-store culture. They expect you to give 150% while paying you 50% of a livable wage. They track every single metric and, even when you have a great sales day, they still push you to do better. It's endless. Even your best isn't good enough. Also, favoritism can be an issue depending on your store. Worked hard for my store for two years and lost the store leader promotion to someone who had been there for a month because the district manager liked her. It doesn't matter how much you like video games, stay away from this job."

Former Employee - Assistant Manager says

"I worked at GameStop full-time Cons: Unrealistic expectations for all associations"

Current Employee - Package Handler says

"I have been working at GameStop part-time Cons: Cheats people out of their money Hangs employees jobs over their heads if they don’t get numbers"

Former Employee - Game Advisor says

"I worked at GameStop part-time Cons: awful pay, treated horribly, no respect for people or their employees"

Former Employee - ASL says

"I worked at GameStop full-time for more than a year Cons: Management Company policies Lack of communication from corporate Ridiculous expectations for what they pay"

Former Employee - SGA/Keyholder says

"I worked at GameStop part-time for more than a year Cons: Awful upper management, you are clearly disposable to them, customer base is also usually awful, little compensation for loads and loads of work, I could go on and on"

Current Employee - Store Leader says

"I have been working at GameStop full-time for more than a year Cons: -poor corporate culture with retail field employees -management making major "howlers" with business -poor communication with management to front line employees -pushing high margin items on customers -current business model a complete and utter disaster -customers fleeing brick and mortar locations due to high pressure sales tactics"

Former Employee - SGA/Keyholder says

"I worked at GameStop full-time for more than 3 years Cons: Basic slave labor pay. May as well starve"

Senior Guest Advisor (Former Employee) says

"Your life ends the minute you work for this company they don't care that you have kids need to leave for the drs to bad worried about covid they don't care. Get sick better come in anyways don't get me started on the lack of leadership the constant threats from the district managers the favoritism that happens. You are better off working some place else. If working an hour a day is your cup of tea then by all means but if lying to your customers is what your into if watching a heartbroken customer leave because you had to lie to them perfect job for you Cons: No breaks no hours no leadership rude lack of training lack of communication"

Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says

"Work there for several months, hired on as an ASM from the street no prior GameStop experience. Was jerked around and threatened for not knowing enough after 1 month even though the manager was on vacation for about 3 weeks and I was reliant on employees under me to help me learn. Cons: All of it but the discounts"

Sales Associate (Former Employee) says

"Terrible environment and district managers like to micro manage everything. Horrible goals that can’t be met in a small store. Stressful with bad work/life balance"

Sales (Current Employee) says

"I worked at gamestop before and during the pandemic, we are not essential, we were never paid a living wage, management was horrible. Do not work here"

Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says

General Manager (Former Employee) says

"This company takes advantage of youth constantly mistreating employee to work harder and longer without pay. Human Resources always sides with the manger regardless if the employee is right or wrong. Cons: Every thing"

Shift Leader (Former Employee) says

"If I could give this job zero stars I would it was the worst job I have ever had, they are numbers driven, and you can hit your mark if not go over it every day, you get no form of compensation, or commission for the things they want you to sell, but if you don’t get those goals or above them in my case every day your job is constantly dangled over your head, my manager was terrible, had break downs in front of customers, never worked with my schedule, and was NEVER there when we needed management, 0/10 would recommend Cons: Everything"

Senior Game Advisor (Manager) says

"set up to fail by poorly hired management, no one knows how to staff a store, never recieve shipment on time, expected to drive our own cars to deliver postage Cons: everything else"

Sales (Current Employee) says

"They paid holiday help minimum wage during a pandemic while accepting government pandemic funds. Which implies zero bonus as well. They treat their regular workers like trash and leave them with trash equipment or penalize them via profit margins. Aka stores are driven by numbers to be in shambles. Many mangers and staff members are great. Which is who I’m writing this. If the company isn’t sinking fully, it deserves to on a moral basis."

Store Manager (Former Employee) says

"my time with gamestop was not okay. district leaders made it clear they had favorites and constantly put their store leaders down. numbers were more important than personal mental health. i’ve had multiple physical altercations with guests who attacked me and company did nothing to provide support. covid destroyed gamestop from within as they failed to care about staff Cons: no support from district leaders"

Assistant manager (Former Employee) says

"Working with brain dead employees and no option to improve the work place , stuck it out for years until I got overly tired of doing everyone’s job on top of my own ! Cons: Management, terrible policies"

Key Holder (Former Employee) says

"I got this job because I love video games and have management experience, so I figured it would at least be easy from a sales perspective. The management is horrible, the things they ask their entry level sales floor employees to do are demeaning. If you’re unsure of what I mean, call a GameStop and listen to the ridiculous things they have to say every time they answer the phone. Also, being a “keyholder” is triple the work and basically the same pay as a so called “advisor.” Cons: Everything else"

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) says

"Overworked underpaid not enough hours for training not enough employee retention low pay rate I can go on and on with the list of issues with game stop"

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) says

"They do not care about their employees or customers. The shareholders are the only people that matter to corporate. Cons: Long hours for management, almost no hours for anyone else, often alone in the store without the ability to take a break, angry/abusive customers are a daily occurrence, very low pay, blatant favoritism, racism, sexism, corporates expectations are unrealistic and impossible to meet"

Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee) says

"This is by far the worst job I have ever had in my life. Over and over we get railed by corporate higher ups who know nothing about being on the ground and don’t put the effort in to know what it’s like to be on the ground. If you aren’t pushing useless extra attachments to a sale you are a useless asset to any gamestop store in the eyes of corporate Cons: Everythung"

Store Manger (Former Employee) says

"Responsabili falsi, assunzione su favoritismi, mobbing, manca di rapporto umano.. potrei continuare per ore.. Cons: Tutto"

Store Manager (Current Employee) says

"Gamestop is a good place to work as long as you do not go above SGA, however the pay for that position cannot support a family. As a store manager we are over worked, understaffed, we get no hours for training potential hires. Corporate seems to shift leadership every month and has no clear direction."

General Manager (Current Employee) says

"Horrible company to work for. Their is no job security at gamestop. The district manager for the grand forks location does not care about his employees and does not take the time to help when needed. They do not give you hours so your employees can actually work. 2 or 3 days a week for key holders to bring home a 400$ check at 10hr is not worth it! Cons: Management"

Senior Guest Advisor (Shift Leader) says

"The company as a whole is nothing but drama and gossip. The higher up "management" is synonymous to a joke with a bad punchline, or an itch under the skin that you cannot scratch, it is by far the worst job experience I've ever had. And I say job experience, because nobody in their right mind would ever make a career out of something so terrible Cons: Everything you can think of, times 10"

SGA (Former Employee) says

"If you’re a lady- run, don’t waste your time. A very unsafe environment~mentality and physically. They don’t care about you in anyway, you are very replaceable. Cons: Everything about it"

Steve says

"Ordered a game for same day delivery and it didn’t show up so they told me it would be here on 1/14/21 still nothing so I talked to customer support and they can’t even tell me where the order is I got a text the day before saying it was supposed to be delivered by Point pickup which I’ve never heard of"

Cosmortal says

"I am so happy this company is on the decline. I can't do something as simple as paying with a gift card and a visa card in one checkout. Gamestop cannot handle the POS or is scamming to make it where they dont accept their own gift card. It said it applied the Gift card balance. But on 2 computers and the phone app it will NOT let me check out without an error. So Frustrating. Such a simple point of sale and they cannot get it right."

Falah Alsakkaf says

"I hate GameStop customer service. Called them twice. First guy put me on hold for 30 mins and I hung up. Second time I had them call me when it’s my turn so I then answered and I can hear background noise but no one talking. Never dealing with GameStop ever again."

David Hines says

"I ordered a PS4 controller online because they were out of stock In stores. I had a gift certificate. I paid extra so I would get it in a week. It has been 3 weeks and I’m still waiting. I don’t recommend ordering anything online with them. If they don’t have it go to Target or Walmart."

Tyler olson says

"Garbage company. Long time customer of instore shopping due to convince, but recently i bought 2 games online on black Friday. Never received them and costumer service never gets back to you. I'm beyond frustrated. I've spent hours trying to my $20 back, customer service is useless and all they do is blame Fedex, i really couldn't care less, i just want my package. Im done. Have my $20, i don't need it, but you'll never get my business again."

Kaleb Funderburk says

"This all started back in June of 2017. 2017 was the launch year of Nintendo's most ambitious console yet, the switch. After the initial launch of the switch there was an extreme shortage of consoles available so I was not able to purchase one, that is until the announcement of a special edition ARMS bundle that came with a special joycon (the switch controllers) color being a neon yellow as well as a copy of the game itself. Once I saw this I knew I needed it. I drove across the country down to Lake Charles for a vacation around that time of the year so I decided to swing by the hotels local GameStop on the launch day of the bundle. To my surprise the GameStop I was at happened to have the console and as I went to pick it up the employee's circled around me and asked if I really wanted to buy this console. Like any other person who wanted a switch I brushed them off and took the switch back to the hotel with me. I was so excited to finally play any game even if it was ARMS. This is when it all started, the steady decline in my sanity. The first time I loaded up the switch it didn't turn on. no matter what I did it didn't work. after a 2 days I gave up and went back to GameStop to return the switch but when I got there the building was gone. I searched google and it turns out there was never a GameStop there. I asked people in the chick-fil-a next-door what was in the empty lot and they all said the lot has always been empty. I was in disbelief, so I decided to wait to go to the GameStop in my own neighborhood where I lived but as I pulled up the building started to vanish. I ran as fast as I could but I didn't make it. it was gone. I was confused. I just wanted to return my switch. I continue to drive to every GameStop in my local area all for not. All of them disappeared the second I lay my eyes on them. For the past 3 Years I have been searching the globe for a single Gamestop to prove that they even exist. I kept hearing news about them so I knew there had to be one somewhere. And my time finally paid off on January 7th 20201. I was thinking about what I would do if I couldn't get my refund on top of Niagara Falls and off in the distance I saw it. A Gamestop. I wiped my eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things but it was real. I run towards it while laughing like a maniac and when I touch the door handle I started to cry. I walk in while holding my ARMS Nintendo switch to see the one and only Reggie Fils-Aimé standing behind the counter. He greets me and I tell him "My switch won't turn on can I have a refund". Reggie smiles at me, turns his head a little and said "You were warned were you not? This is the consequences of your actions but because I'm Reggie ill allow you a refund on one condition". At this point I was ready to agree with anything he said as long as I could get this switch away from me. Reggie offered me my refund in full as long as I bought out the entire companies stock of Five Nights at Freddie's merchandise. I looked at Reggie's eyes and said "No b*tch" and walked away. I reflected on the last three years of my life. My travels across the world, all done with my ARMS Nintendo switch. I teared up a little and accepted that I was foolish to ever buy anything from GameStop and decided to keep this as a reminder to never go to that sh/it merchandise store ever again. TLDR; they sold me a broken copy of Pokémon Black 2 for the Nintendo DS in the year 2020"

Sylvia Alvarado says

"I have been trying since March of 2020 to receive my sons Nintendo Switch from a returned console and warranty and almost a year later I still have not received one! No calls. No follow-up. Nothing but broken commitments to fulfill an obligation. The worse customer service experience and follow thru."

Mike Bailey says

"I give their customer service a zero! Email, chat and phone calls are all foreign people who don't know what is going on. I have been trying to get a refund for an online purchase for over a month. Just keep getting the run around. Don't buy online from them. Worst customer service ever. I had to give 1 star because it wont let me give zero stars!!"

Teletto says

"I bought the wrong game and wanted to have my money back, turns out that I couldnt get my money back because I passed the get - your - money - back period where they said that I could only get 25€ back from a game that I originally paid 50€ for, very dissapointed in their system and customer service. Will definitely never visit any gamestop again."

iBro Smith says

"Everyone knows GameStop is a Life-sucking Company. but there are people that are unaware like my little brother that bought the wrong game this year and wanted to return it for the same amount of money. they did not want to give him the money back but instead they convinced him to turn in the game for less than half what he paid the previous day. they even made him sign something that gives them complete right to do what they want from there on out. This happend in Switzerland Basel and you can bet that i will spend money and time to get these thiefs going out of business. I beg anyone reading this , DO NOT USE GAMESTOP EVER IN ANY WAY . PLEASE I BEG YOU TO NEVER EVER BUY ORDER OR SELL THERE. We are so advanced technologically speaking that this company should die out. It is not fair with all these ppl writing these reviews and crying about hundreds of dollars, pounds, Franks and nothing ever happens."

JJ Bobby says

"Really terrible, pricing. Better and, cheaper to,but new rather than game stop I bought ben 10 for,my kid here and only find out they selling 10dollars more than, walmart or target and its used alot more games as well over prices"

Kathryn Kuehlman says

"I've tried calling multiple times and emailing and I can never get a response. One of the times I called I was on hold for over an hour and once I finally was talking to someone he put me on hold and then I was forwarded to the survey portion and I got disconnected. What really bothers me is the guy took my number so he could call me if we lost connection and he never called back. Reallh crappy customer service. I just went ahead and took my business else where. This company needs to train its customer support agents better because what I experienced especially in the end was unacceptable. I will not be giving Game Stop any more of my business."

simon fowler says

"Easily the worst place to buy games, trade games in, or receive service from. Rudest employees, sh1ttiest deals. The worst."

Shawna Wint says

"I will never be ordering anything from GameStop again! Ordered PS5 bundle dec 18, got email it shipped dec 28. January 7 contacted GameStop about not receiving bundle. They put in investigation and blamed FedEx. Checked with FedEx. Nothing had been given to them from GameStop warehouse! Called customer service 2 days later and was offered replacement. If this doesn’t work, GameStop will be getting an ear full😡"

JD Box says

"Somehow got suckered into placing an online order with Gamestop. Should have known better. They seem unable to get even the simplest of transactions correct. Like ordering product online, processing a payment, and delivering. Payment is still in pending mode after 4 days. No status updates, can't cancel and buy elsewhere. Why o why did I make this mistake of trusting a company that is going bankrupt and out of business. The company cannot die soon enough. Beware and believe that none of your positive consumer expectations will be met by Gamestop. You have been warned. If you like frustration, by all means, continue to patronize this horrible company. I will not spend any more money with them and if I could get the last order cancelled, I would. Good riddance to a bad company."

Daniel Cordero says

"So I bought a PS4 slime 1TB and when I first got it seemed fine at first but later on it kept going on safe mode when I fix it it does the same thing and I can’t get my money back at All"

Tiffany Moe says

"This is just for the online GameStop ordering. I ordered the wrong xBox online (because I didn't know my son wanted a different one). After I received the package, I printed the return label and send the package back on 11/23. I received an email on 12/7 that they had received it and that my refund was being processed. It is now 1/7 and still no refund. When I call they want my "packaging label". I was like REALLY?! I received a conformation from YOU, the FedEx return is on YOUR website (my page) and you want me to give you more?! They seem to have lost my $450 return even though they emailed ME confirmation. I just keep getting dicked around!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has been a month and a half! *Never had any problems with the "in-store" experience."

Julianna Oldenburg says

"Im never buying anything off of Gamestop website. I bought something from them online in december for my siblings for the holidays. When I went to the process payment page it wasnt loading properly. I refreshed the page and did it thinking its my wifi having a problem. I end up calling customer service, I told the lady 3 times what was happening, she didnt seem to understand what i was talking about. On the third time she said to delete browsers cache and cookies, refresh page and try again in 30 minutes. I so, same thing happened again, so I called customer service again. This time the guy said it has to be due to the high volume of ppl on the website trying to buy the PS5 etc. That was reasonable so i didnt worry about it. Later i checked my bank account (like i do just to make sure my acc hasnt been hacked or anything) and i had 10 pending transactions for gamestop. THE HECK!?!?!? So, I call customer service again and they said to contact my bank. I ended up doing so and my bank said they were error transactions and will go away after a few days and it did do so. At this point im so frustrated that i just want to cancel my pro membership and get my money back bc i was thinking "i do this and i will save a lot of money" etc. Well nope, i end up contacting customer service bc i wanted to place an order over the phone. Now the game i wanted to get was $15 but when i went to the item page it said it was $5 so i added it to my cart and it was $15. So I call them to ask what the actual price of the game was, I GOT TRANSFERED 4 FING TIMES!!!!! At this point I told the last guy I want to cancel my membership and I want my money back. He said he will try to figure out how to help me and put me on hold. I was on hold for 20 minutes and the line went dead. I called back just for the guy (a different guy) to say I have to go to the store I signed up with to cancel it. LIKE WTH!?!?!!? It was a 40 minute to that store!!!!! And during covid, bad advice dude!!! Anyways I ended up going to that store, the lady there was much nicer and more helpful than the fing ppl I talked to on the phone. Now this was my first time ever buying anything from gamestops website and it was the worst customer experience ever!!!!!"

Caleb Austin says

"I'm afraid of Gamestop. I can't come back when my life is threatened at every waking moment being inside of any location of that franchise. I literally cannot step into a Gamestop without suffering a panic attack, knowing that THEY might come back and haunt me once again. Please, even if the new consoles are good, just order them from Amazon, and if that sick company has even touched that console its already long gone. Trust me when I say this: Gamestop will hunt you down for the rest of your life until you pay them in full for their FNAF merchandise freddy awesome merch freddy fazbear pizza bear action figure card game action figure freddy game."

Old Man Gamer says

"Just had to threaten them with legal action over 60 bucks worth of used games they decided to ship to someone in Florida instead of my actual address in California. Customer service hinted that this was somehow my fault and that I\'d have to take it up with USPS. USPS tells me Gamestop printed and placed the shipping info themselves, which I already knew. Now my money\'s locked up and my kids won\'t their games in time for Christmas. Fuck you, Gamestop."
